Masterbatches
Masterbatches are pigment or dye concentrates dispersed in a polymer, which add color to the polymer to which it is applied. They were first developed for dyeing or coloring very thin articles, such as films, multifilaments, etc.; today, masterbatches are used in most processes.
Advantages of using masterbatches include:
- Easy handling: dry, clean to the touch, without dust generation in the environment of use;
- Less impregnation of the forming set, which makes cleaning faster and simpler;
- Low moisture absorption compared to using pigments directly; and
- Ease of storage.
